BEVERLY HILLS – The much talked about [and maybe much feared] Rapture that was suppose to end the world and separate the good from the bad on May 21st 2011 didn’t happen.
Thus far, all is good and well with planet earth not considering several serious disasters that did occur across the globe:
The Philippines were struck with a 5.5 earthquake causing localised power outages as buildings swayed, but no casualties were reported, officials said.
The epicentre of the quake, which struck at 9:08pm (1308 GMT), was a few kilometres northeast of Ilagan, the capital of Isabela province, a duty officer with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology told AFP.
Another and stronger 6.1 earthquake struck near the Kermadic Islands in New Zealand. There were no reports of damage or risk of a Tsunami because of the quake.
According to the U.S. Geological Service, the quake struck at 21:17:00 UTC on Saturday, which is 9:17 a.m. Sunday morning local time. The epicenter of the quake was 12 miles below the mostly uninhabited islands, which are approximately 620 miles east of New Zealand’s capital city of Auckland.
And yet a third earthquake struck closer to home at San Francisco Bay, California, measuring 3.6 on the Richter Scale. Emergency officials said there were no reports of serious damage or injury.
Then there was a volcano eruption in Iceland. The Grímsvötn volcano spew ashes 12 miles in the air, forcing the Icelandic airport to close down.
Airport and air traffic control operator ISAVIA said Keflavik airport was closed at 0830 GMT (4:30 a.m. EDT), and no flights were taking off or landing.
“The ash distribution forecast over the next six hours shows that the ash from the volcano will spread over Iceland today, leading to the closure of most Icelandic airports as the day goes on,” ISAVIA said in a statement.
Spokeswoman Hjordis Gudmundsdottir said the ash plume was covering Iceland, but “the good news is that it is not heading to Europe.”
And one more disaster much closer to home took the life of one individual when a range of tornadoes struck the United States mid-west region.

While the Rapture that 89 year old preacher Campbell had predicted didn’t happen, the world did experience a handful of mild-to-serious disasters on May 21 2011.
Maybe these disasters served as a reminder that our planet could indeed “explode” if we aren’t more considerate with mother nature and do our best to preserve it.
It’s worth the effort, after all, it is the only ‘home’ we got!
