TOKYO – 3 months after the 9.0 earthquake that destroyed a large portion of Japan’s south-east region and displaced hundreds of thousands of its people, scientists are very concerned about the continuing radiation leakage at Fukushima Nuclear Plant.

Scientists around the world warn Fukushima is still a 'ticking time bomb'

The Fukushima Nuclear Plant was seriously damaged during the quake and has been leaking radioactive steam in the air and highly contaminated water has been spilling back into the ocean and seeping into the ground.

Scientists from around the world warn that Fukushima is a “ticking time bomb” that will bring forth serious consequences for Japan and the world, unless Japanese authorities take drastic measure to prevent the ‘time bomb from detonating’.

Although Japan’s disaster has become much less front news, scientists state that the dangerous situation that threatens Japan and the world is far from over.

Japan’s government has been highly criticized for not acting with a much more urgent, dire straight approach to containing and preventing nuclear meltdown in three Fukushima reactors; a nuclear crisis labeled worst than the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

“The world has forgotten about Fukushima when Japanese politicians exchanged they blue overalls for political suits once again.  That doesn’t mean the problem isn’t still there,” scientists reportedly stated.

Mojib Latif, a nuclear specialist at the University of Kiel says “they [the Japanese government] had to know there was radioactive danger, they had to know how much the nuclear meltdown had advanced, they had to know the extreme situation”.

According to Latif, Japan has lied to the world about the seriousness of the Fukushima situation since onset.

“Three reactors had a nuclear meltdown and every aftershock could have caused more damage,” says American scientist Michio Kaku.   He added that “the situation is stable, but it’s like holding on with your fingernails and the de-contamination has still not begun”.

“We were so arrogant in thinking that we have mastered nuclear physics,” Latif said and added that he believes it will take Japan anywhere from 50 to 100 more years before Fukushima is completely decontaminated.

“No one had expected such an earthquake followed by such a devastating Tsunami,” Latif told reporters.  ”That’s exactly why those disasters happen,” he concluded.

Today’s figures indicate that Japan’s disaster in March 11 2011 has thus far resulted in 10,400 billion Yen of damage to homes, offices, shopping centers and industrial facilities, 5,200 billion Yen for boats, ports, agriculture, roads and fishing boats and another 1,300 billion Yen on water, gas, electricity and telecommunications.

In the region of Fukushima, 85,000 people were ordered to leave everything behind and not return to the contaminated area.
