ABC News Accused Of ‘Lying’ To Its Viewers

LOS ANGELES – A bombshell dropped this morning when the Today show announced that Good Morning America’s Botox Mom said she lied about injection her daughter with the chemical and insists that Good Morning America knew that.

Only a week ago, Kerry Campbell appeared on the highly rated GMA show saying she injects her 8 year old daughter’s face with Botox before attending beauty pageants.

That announcement not only shocked the nation that a mother would do such a horrible thing to her young child, but it set off a slue of backlashes that forced the mother to go into hiding.

Now Campbell, who’s real name is Sheena Upton, has come forth in another equally shocking statement saying that her story isn’t true and that she fabricated the whole thing.  Campbell, who is currently being investigated by U.S. Child Protective Services, to make sure her child isn’t being physically harmed, says she has never injected her child with anything, especially not Botox.

The UCLA medical facility has already checked the young girl in question and a spokesperson for the medical center has stated that ‘there are no traces of the child being ever injected with Botox’, indicating that the mother’s claim that she never touched her child are true.

Why would large media networks air fake stories?

Ratings are a major part of a network’s potential to generate revenue.  The higher rated a TV show is the more advertisers that show attracts and the higher the advertising fees are.

A drop in ratings, especially for a show such as Good Morning America, will quickly see a major dip in advertising dollars.

That network giants ‘capture’ viewers with stories that border on deceit isn’t really anything new.

In 2010 Media Research Center, a group that researches liberal bias in the mainstream media, has decided to send billboard trucks to the Manhattan headquarters of ABC, CBS and NBC that urge them to “tell the truth” in their reporting of the news.

What consequences may this have for ABC and GMA?

If it is confirmed that GMA knew in advance that Upton’s story was fabricated, the immediate pinch will be that large advertisers may not want to associate with the network any longer and pull their ads, resulting in major revenue loss for the station.

Viewers may also dropped significantly, after feeling betrayed by the network, resulting in lower ratings which leads to fewer big advertisers.

Long term though, the network doesn’t have much to fear. As usually happens when a story like this one breaks, the network will make an official apology, lay low for a while till media backlash calms down and go on with business as usual.
