Public prosecutors demand that the two man, who head the designer empire ‘Dolce & Gabbana’, are being send to jail for two years and six months.
The prosecutors claim that both men, together with six other individuals, created fictitious business in Luxembourg, thereby evading over $US1 billion in taxes.
During a January interview with the ‘Corriere della Sera’ (nightly news), the designers adamantly denied the charges.
“We are convinced we acted correctly,” Gabbana told the paper.
A lawyer representing the fabulous duo had asked the Italian Ficus to impose a penalty of $US13 million. In March this year, the Italian tax department already imposed a $US430 million tax penalty on Dolce and Gabbana.
A final ruling over the designers’ fate will be handed down next week. The Italian court did not release a specific date for the hearing.
