BEIJING – The H7N9 bird flue virus took the lives of two more individuals in China, putting the death toll at nine, according to the Xinhua state news agency.

The agency says that as of last night, there are 28 reported cases in China of individuals infected with the H7N9 virus. Most of victims live in Shanghai and 3 other eastern provinces.
China’s health department states that thus far they have no indication that the virus is transmitting from person to person.
Thus far, people who are infected with the virus, contracted the illness by coming in direct contact with infected poultry.
To minimize further infections, China has forbidden the selling of poultry in various parts of the country.
H7N9 is a serotype of the species Influenzavirus A (bird flue virus). H7 normally circulates among avian populations with some variants known to occasionally infect humans.
An H7N9 virus was first reported to have infected humans in 2013.
