The new Apple Iphone G4 may not be made with left-handed people in mind; a latest Iphone G4 issue reported that reception is deminished and in some instances completely lost, when holding the Apple Iphone G4 in your left hand and placing the unit against your left ear which “blocks” the internal antenna that is located on the inner left side of the Iphone casing.
Still, a complete Iphone G4 recall as announced by Apple CEO and Mr. Gadget himself Steve Jobs?
Is this real?
A recent tweet showing up in Twitter seems to indicate it is. Considering Mr. Jobs is known to personally answer questions consumers have about his products, it is not unusual then to see Mr. Steve Jobs tweets. But, a twitter announcement indicating a total recall of the latest, much anticipated Apple Iphone G4?
“We may have to recall the new Iphone. This I did not expect!” the tweet says.
Turns out that the tweet, the message and the Twitter account name @ceoSteveJobs may be fake and that nothing about this recall is true.
Yes, the latest Iphone unit is having left-handed signal problems but nothing so severe it warrants a total recall of the thousands of Iphone G4 units sold thus far.
What gave this fake Iphone G4 recall tweet wind to fly is the re-publication of it in a British newspaper “Daily Mail” that ran a story quoting the Twitter message as saying: “Apple might have to recall the Iphone 4.”. Daily Mail has since removed the story from its DM website, but it’s still posted on multiple syndication sites and scraper pages.
Meanwhile, MacRumors cites a newly received SteveMail that says: “There are no reception issues.” This lends credence to the AppleInsider post that anticipates an iOS 4.01 release to correct the signal problems associated with the ‘death grip’, the nickname given when using the Iphone with the left hand.
And so the debate goes on: Is the Iphone G4 living up to its much hyped about expectations or is it indeed a new gadget experiencing what most new technology does: technical design and development pains that often require a few upgrades and additional releases to get the “kinks” worked out … ?
It will be very interesting to see how Apple ultimately addresses the issues with the phone that has indeed been letting consumers down with its reception problems, and that if the Twitter post from Steve Jobs is just the first rumor confirmation that a massive recall is about to take place.
