But now there is a new hit book on New York’s Best Seller list.
Writer ‘Mama Porno’, aka Erika Mitchell, pen name ‘EL James’ has officially broken the records of the mega-busters with her book series entitled ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, making them the fastest selling erotic romance novels in British book history.
49 year old James describes her novels as “a romantic fantasy that gives women a vacation away from their men”. Whatever that may entail, for James, her ‘formula for success’ is obviously working.
The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ books have been number one on the best selling list for the past nine weeks and just last week alone more than 100,000 copies of the trilogy were sold.

EL James received the nickname ‘Mama Porno’ because of the pornographic tone the romance novels exude.
The trilogy is a fictional story about a young virgin student named Anastasia Steele and her stinking rich lover Christian Grey. The paperbacks describe a whirlwind of sexual scenes including SM, yet the relationship between the two is just a basic love story.
Erika Mitchell has been married for 25 years to script writer Niall Leonard. Together they have two children.
Mitchell’s books became the amazing success simply by word of mouth, a very unusual and often unsuccessful route to getting on the best selling list.
Mitchell first published her stories on the internet two years ago in tribute to a fan of the Twilight series.
Today Mama Porno has two distribution contracts on both sides of the ocean as well as a movie deal. Her net worth is currently estimated at $US7.5 million.
