Jorge Mario Bergoglio (77) originates from Buenos Aires but is of Italian descent. He chose the Papal name ‘Franciscus’.
Bergoglio will first go to the ‘room of tears’ where he will put on the new Papal frock and cloak.
The room is called the ‘room of tears’ because it is where the newly elected Pope gets a chance to reflect and let his emotions free reign, which often results in the new Pope shedding tears.
Inside the room of tears hangs the newly elected Pope’s Papal clothes which were create beforehand in small, medium or large, to ensure they fit.
Bergoglio is the first Latin-American to be elected Pope and the first Jesuit to become Head of the Roman Catholic Church. Prior to being elected Pope, Bergoglio was Archbishop of Buenos Aires.
