After the third voting round no new Pope has yet been chosen but one final smoke plume is said to rise from the Chimney no later than 7:30 PM local time, when the Conclave retreats until tomorrow.

“For believers, the dove on top of the chimney is an ominous sign a new pope is at hand.”

If smoke appears by 7:00 PM it will most likely be white, indicating the Conclave elected a new Pope.

A dove sitting on the ledge of the chimney is for many believers an ominous sign the Roman Catholic Church will have a new Pope today – in the bible, the Holy Spirit is represented by a dove. The Conclave prayed to the Holy Spirit for guidance at the start of the election.

Barack Obama has expressed he would love it if an American Cardinal was elected Pope. “I think an American Pope would be as effective as one from Poland, Italy or Guatemala,” the President said.

The weather in Italy is wet and cold, yet thousands stay put at Saint Peter’s Square eagerly anticipating the final billowing of the chimney.

Eight years ago, about this time, Joseph Ratzinger was elected to Pope Benedictus XVI. Experts predict that by tomorrow the latest, the world will have a new Pope because Cardinals are under pressure to show unity during a time of tribulation for the Catholic church.
