Reportedly, Okada (53) and his daughter got trapped in the snowstorm
Saturday afternoon. Rescue teams found Okada’s truck the next day about 1,000 feet from where they found his body.
The daughter stated that her dad wanted to make it to the hangar to find shelter and even managed to call a family member for help. But by the time they got to the hangar, they noticed it was locked.
According to the daughter, her dad told her to climb inside his coat and hug him tightly so that his body temperature would keep her warm.
The incident occurred in Yubetsu, a town near the east coast in the Hokkaido prefecture. A severe winter storm brought bone chilling temperatures and dropped several feet of snow.
Last year severe snowstorms plagued the coastal towns in Northern Japan. 58 people lost their lives during those storms.
