The French Fries party rage has become so popular it has since spread to other parts of Asia, including Japan.
For McDonalds’ the trend means money in the bank. Only french fries from that fast food chain are used to have the party.
Why? Because McDonald’s fries don’t stick together and that’s an important part of having the party.
A group of teens, mostly, buy each a package of fries at McDonald’s. After having settled down at several tables, they pour out the containers of fries on the carrying trays or just straight on the table and begin to nibble on the fries to hearts content.
There’s a trick to picking a fry from the tray though. The goal is not to disturb the other fries on the tray while you pick one. And with several fingers dipping in the delicious fried potatoes, that’s not always possible, leading to a lot of giggling and loud voices.
The French Fries party is filmed, with faces covered, and posted online. Groups compete against each other to ‘outdo’ one another.
Despite a sudden boost in fries sales, South Korean McDonald’s chains aren’t all that pleased with the new rage and have taken several party players by the collars and escorted them to the doors.
Why? McDonald’s doesn’t say, except it doesn’t approve of buying $US250 worth of French Fries and eating them in a ‘community’ setting.
And as anticipated, parents aren’t keen about the parties either. “Those trays and table tops have lots of germs, that’s why the fries come in containers,” said one worried mom who didn’t want to be identified.
Despite the ‘criticism’, the French Fries party rage is in full swing in South Korea and as of yet there are no signs it slowing down any time soon.
