In Mexicali, near the US border, drug lords showed just how creative they are to get their drugs into the US. Using a home-made canon, the drug dealers literally hurled their goods across the border.
The canon operated by means of an old car engine that was converted to an air compressor. The canon was powerful enough to blast 30 pounds of Marijuana 500 feet away, according to Time World.
US authorities had been suspecting for some time that Mexico’s drug cartels were using canon to hurl their goods into the US. On several occasions, US border patrol found packages filled with drugs scattered along the border.
In December 2012, news agency REUTERS reported that 82 pounds of Marijuna with a street value of $US42,500 was found along the San Luis, Arizona border.
REUTERS stated that border patrol also found a a carbon dioxide tank, used to propel objects from the cannon.
Prior to ‘inventing a drug blasting canon’, drug cartels used catapults to propel their drugs across the US border. In January 2011, the US National Guards discovered such a catapult sitting on Mexican territory just across the border from the US near the town of Naco, Arizona.
67 percent of all Marijuana found in the United States comes from Mexico.
The United States invests 3 billion dollars annually to protect its borders with Mexico.
