The volcano ash settles down on the villages below covering everything in sight in a coat of grey dust.
The Sicilian government has declared a state of emergency for the neighborhoods surrounding the foot of Mount Etna. Road traffic has been slowed down to 20 Mph and open traffic – motorcycles and bicycles – aren’t allowed on public roads at all.
Only experts are allowed near the volcano since it erupted and residents have been urged to temporarily seek a safer place to be.
Etna didn’t crack completely but spew enough lava and ashes to make live very difficult for towns on the southern side of the mountain.
Thick giant ash clouds blasted 7,000 feet in the air, blackening the sky and settling on cars, homes, streets, trees and people below.
Experts have warned mountain climbers not to climb higher than 3,000 feet and stated they prefer there would be no climbing at all until the mountain settles down again.
Mount Etna has been ‘unsettled’ for some time and lava, steam and debris has been pushing from its mount almost daily for the last year.
This eruption is the worst yet. Experts believe however the volcano isn’t going to have a full-scale eruption but warn villagers, climbers and travelers to be caution and alert and ready to flee at a moments notice.
