According to the website Deadline, the Academy Awards show is going to last 3 hours and 23 minutes – longer than any Oscar ceremony to date – before the millions of viewers around the world get to hear which movie wins the Oscar for ‘Best Picture’.
Just the opening act, an introduction by Emma Stone and Seth MacFarlane, is 15 minutes long. That is followed by British singer Adele’s performance of the ‘Skyfall’, the title song of the James Bond movie ‘Skyfall’.
Insiders say the ceremony may even exceed four hours if award winners’ speeches drag out, which is often the case at the Oscars.
Organizers of the Oscars are doing their best to keep the show within limits because viewers tend to ‘disappear’ when the event takes too long and that’s bad for advertisers, who paid prime dollars for an ad spot during the ceremony.
The organizers of the Academy Awards Show say they’ve put a good show together and everyone should be happy with the result.
The absolute longest Oscars ceremony in Hollywood history was held in 2002 and lasted 4 hours and 23 minutes.
