LONDON – Victoria’s Secret employee, Naomi Oni (20) simply didn’t want to live anymore when she saw her face after someone wearing a niqab poured acid over her in Dagenham, east London.

The incident happened last December. Naomi was on her way home when a woman dressed in niqab approached her and poured acid over her.

The acid caused severe burns on Naomi’s head, neck, arms, legs and body.
“When I saw my injuries for the first time, I didn’t want to live anymore. Only because I consider live to be a precious gift from God did I not end it,” Naomi tells BBC News.
Naomi Omi spent an entire month in a burn center. At first doctors thoughts she would be blind for the rest of her life. Today Naomi is able to see, albeit ever so slightly, through her left eye.
Naomi reflects back to the night of December 30 2012. “A little after midnight I got off the bus near my house. I felt a presence behind me. I turned around. I saw a woman wearing a niqab or burka, she was dressed completely in black. All I remember after that is her pouring something on me.”
“I keep asking myself ‘why did this have to happen to me?’”.
London police are still looking for the perpetrator. They are considering all possible motives, including racism.
In several European countries, Belgium and France, wearing burkas or niqabs in public is no longer allowed and is punishable by a fine and jail time. Since this incident occurred, the United Kingdom is considering instigating a similar ruling.
