The judge ruled that the division BP Exploration & Production should take the responsibility for the blame put on BP, which includes 11 counts of murder, and as such BP’s 4 billion dollars remuneration was calculated properly.

“The fine that BP wishes to pay has been ‘adequately calculated’ as a sanction for the ‘serious consequences’ caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil platform,” the judge stated.
For BP this ruling is a major victory since the United States held the company solely responsible for one of America’s worst environmental disasters.
The gigantic oil spill was responsible for killing 11 people and caused major environmental damage. Thousands of fish and other creatures living in the Gulf of Mexico were killed and the spill delt a virtually deathblow to fishing industries all along the borders of the Gulf of Mexico.
Yet the United States has once again allowed oil drilling to commence in the Gulf of Mexico because according to President Barack Obama “America needs to create an independence from foreign oil”.
