The tiny spider which is barely 5mm in size, at first appears to be an actually much larger spider. But closer examination reveals that the large spider with its 8 legs, a torso and spider claws, is actually made of debris and the smaller spider is hiding inside the ‘decoy’.

Biologist Phil Torres, part of the three scientists team discovered the ‘decoy’ spider and filmed it. He then contacted various scientists experienced in arachnology (the study of spiders) and was told no one had ever seen or heard of a ‘decoy’ spider.

A team of biologists have been assigned to investigate the spider which makes large mock-up spiders with debris it carries through the rain forest, to determine if it is indeed a new spider specie not previously discovered.

Biologists are only beginning to unravel the mysteries hidden deep inside the Amazon. Over the past 10 years they discovered more than 1,200 new animal species living in the dense rain forest.
