IRNA stated the launch was coordinated to fall on the same day as Prophet Mohammed’s birthday last week. Tehran news reports the monkey has since been returned to earth safe and sound.
Iran has been very ambitions in developing a space program over the past decade. According to its own reports, the nation already launched a mouse, a turtle and several worms into space the last few years.
But the United States and its allies fear that Iran’ space program is merely a cover up to develop long range missiles.
That fear is augmented by the fact that Iran refuses to give official confirmation of an existing space program. Additionally, not one single Western country reported about Iran’s space rocket launch last week.
The IRNA reported that Iran already did send a monkey into space in 2011 but that attempt failed.
