BOSTON – A team of 15 doctors was required to remove a coloring pencil drilled into the brain of a 19 months old girl in Boston.

The girl was coloring when she suddenly lost balance, fell off her chair and landed with her eye on top of the sharp point of the orange coloring pencil.

The pencil pushed 7 inches into Olivia’s brain. Remarkable she was still alive and was flown by helicopter to the Boston Children’s Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.
Neurosurgeon Darren Orbach calls the child’s survival an absolute miracle.
“The pencil entered via the right eye and dug itself diagonally across the child’s brain until it reached the left ear. It’s a miracle no vital parts were damaged,” Orbach explained.
“Olivia did suffer three strokes because of the pencil penetration into her brain but she is expected to make a full and complete recovery,” the neurosurgeon said.
