Almost 20 years after the Soviet Union collapsed and the red star was retired, it will be ‘showcased’ once again on Russian military planes.

The Russian Department of Defense in Moscow told the local paper ‘Izvestiya’ that today’s markings of Russian military planes, consisting of the national three-colors white, blue and red, are not suitable to camouflage the air crafts.
Therefore it has been decided unanimously that the five-points red star will be reintroduced and will adorn Russian military planes once again, according to the Department.
Military experts agree with the Department’s decision. Anatoli Kornukov, former head of the Russian air force said: “The whole world knows the Red Star!”.
Soviet symbols such as the Red Star, emblems with a hammer and sickle or laurel wreath, are still very common in Russia, despite they are for many a reminder of the times when Russia was controlled and operated by one single communist party.
