LONDON – Residents at the small quaint British town of Whitby got the scare of their lives when they noticed human bones exposed at their Dracula graveyard.

St. Mary’s Church, known as ‘Dracula-Church’ after it was mentioned in Bram Stoker’s book ‘Dracula’, is vested on top of a hill. The residents of Whitby live below the cliff. The town’s graveyard is wedged between the church and the residents’ homes.

Heavy and relentless rainfall had washed away several centuries old tombstones and surrounding mud, exposing the content of the graves. Some graves were flushed out completely causing the humans bones to be straddled down the hill.
Both the graveyard and the church are inching ever closer to the edge of the cliff each year as heavy rainfall continues to devastate the landscape.
It will only be a matter of time before the church tumbles over the cliff, unless something is done to prevent this from happening.

Villagers gathered the human bones and buried them elsewhere, away from the cliff’s edge. The ‘Dracula’ graveyard adjacent to the church hasn’t been used since 1865.
Masses are still held at the church. The oldest parts of St Mary’s Church are Norman and date from around 1110.
