AL-HURATH – A retired Arabian man is causing upheaval in the predominantly male controlled Islamic society for marrying a girl, young enough to be his great-great-grandchild.

According to CNN a 90 year old Arabian man weds a 15 year old girl after her parents ‘sold her off’ to him for $US20,000.

The union between the two came to light when the senior filed an official complaint stating the parents of the child had taken her back to their home.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, says he was conned by the girl’s family and demands his money back.
The family of the girl reports however that she had a fight with ‘her husband’ and ran home afterwards on her own accord.
In Islamic communities it is common for young girls to be married off to older man in exchange for a sum of money. In this case however, because of the extreme age gap, even Muslim communities are asking the marriage to be null and void.
The case is still undecided.
