Tasmania and other parts of Australia have been hit with a heatwave producing temperatures over 115 degrees Fahrenheit. The weather bureau had to add the purple color to its weather chart to register the extreme temperatures.
The weather bureau forecasts that the extreme hot weather may soon surpass the 1960s record of 129.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
Tourist traveling through the regions hit by the heatwave say that even after midnight thermometers still register 98 degrees outside.
The hot weather hasn’t just made for thousands of Australians seeking relief at the beach of the many lakes and ponds straddled throughout the country, it has also brought with it severe bush fires.
Tasmania, where it is usually a bit cooler, has been hit with wild fires that destroyed more than 100 buildings, including homes, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people and charding thousands of acres of land.
Australia’s National Weather Station does not foresee a drop in extreme temperatures within the next few days.
