Jews Shocked By Hitler Statue In Poland

The ‘provocative’ statue was created as an art piece by artist Maurizio Cattelan.

But Schudrich finds the statue insulting and says: “We have to be very careful when we put images of Hitler, out of respect for the people who suffered in the Holocaust”.

The statue, showing Hitler in a prostrated position, has been in place in Warsaw since November 16 2012, resembling a child and wearing a grey suit.

The statue named ‘HIM’ is hidden from public view in an abandon building and can only be seen through a hole in a wooden door. The display is part of Catellan’s display at Warsaw’s Museum of Today’s Art.

Representatives of the Museum told the Rabbi, the statue is not a resembles of Hitler but a symbol for evil which can look innocent and deceiving.

In December 2012 the Simon Wiesenthal-Center in Jerusalem send a communication to the museum, expressing the statue in Warsaw is misplaced and insulting to the victims of Nazism.
