Mayor Bloomberg the increase in violence in his city is thanks to Apple’s iPhones, iPods and iPads.
Mr Bloomberg reasons that those New Yorkers who can’t afford to purchase these expensive gadgets resort to ‘alternative’ means to get them.
Overall criminal activities in the ‘Big Apple’ increased little in 2012 reporting 108,432 cases vs 104,948 the year prior. But noteworthy is that specific theft of Apple gadgets rose by 3,890 case.
For Bloomberg that’s a clear cut case: “Take Apple away and we would have seen a reduction in violence in New York,” says Marc La Vorgna, spokesperson for Bloomberg.
Bloomberg told Apple gadgets owners to not have their equipment visible when in public.
“Hide them in a bag with a tight closing zipper, not in your coat pocket, so you can feel it when someone tries to steal it.”
NYPD is working with undercover detectives who are placed at various subway stations with the intend to catch thieves in the act. However so many people own expensive Apple gadgets in New York that the effort is useless.
