NEW DELHI – The death of a 23 year old student who was brutally gang raped by six men on board a bus and afterwards was discarded off the bus like an old rag, has forced the Indian government to finally take a harsh stand against rapists.

India is plagued by rapists and is one of the few countries remaining in the world where woman abuse is pretty much tolerated.

The death of a 23 year student and the suicide of a 15 year old teen within days of each other, both rape victims, seems to force the country to be much more pro women’s rights.

Such indication became clear when Indian court decided it is considering the chemical castration of the six men who raped the 23 year old student.

Unlike surgical castration which physically removes the testicles or ovaries, chemical castration is the administration of medication designed to reduce libido and sexual activity.

The Hindu national party BJP insists on a speedy trials and demands the six men are being put to death.

“We want to see them hang and will fight till the end,” said the brother of the 23 year old victim.

The young woman was raped on a public bus, beaten with metal rods and thrown off the moving bus naked. She died on Sunday from her injuries.

The crime caught world-wide attention and emphasized once again that violence against women is tolerated by the Indian government.

Hundreds took to the streets in New Delhi demanding laws are changed and rapists are given a just and tough punishment.

In support of the recent rape crime, large clubs in New Delhi have canceled their traditional New Year’s parties.

Sudhir Mittal, of the Vasant-Vihar-Club, which has 7,000 members, said: “our members don’t think it’s right we have a party”.

The same sentiment was shared by the 99 year old Gymkhana-Club which has also canceled its New Year’s party. Members of congress and even the army are supporting the demonstration asking the country not to celebrate New Year’s eve at all.
