CARACAS – Venezuela President Hugo Chavez’s health is deteriorating after having a fourth surgery in Cuba to remove an newly discovered cancerous tumor.

Chavez reportedly has developed infections in his airways, which resulted in additional post-operative complications, according to Chavez’ replacement Nicolás Maduro.
The 58 year old President went to Cuba to undergo his fourth operation on December 11th to remove malignant tumors in his stomach or intestines area – Chavez refuses to say the type of cancer he has.
In October Hugo Chavez was re-elected for a third time to serve a six year presidential term in Venezuela. He will be officially sworn in on January 10th 2013 if his health permits.
Should Chavez complete this six year term which ends 2019, he will have been president of Venezuela for 20 years – not counting a short state control in 2002.
If Hugo Chavez is not able to complete his term, the country of Venezuela will then hold new elections to select a new president.
