DETROIT – American auto manufacturer Ford has announced it is on track to sell more than 2 million vehicles in the United States in 2012.

The company says it expects to have sold 2.2 million Ford vehicles by year’s end versus 2.1 million Ford cars sold in 2011.
According to Ford’s sales analyst Erich Merkle, that accomplishment will make Ford the only car brand to sell over 2 million vehicles in the United States.
Merkle claims that, except for Ford, no other car manufacturer has been able to sell more than 2 million vehicles in the United States since 2007.
“Selling 2 million cars per year before the recession was normal,” says Merkle. “We are the first back at that level again.”
Despite reaching top sales, Ford is still in the second spot of US car manufacturers, trailing behind General Motors.
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has inched itself back to a third position in the United States despite having suffered a ‘bum rap’ in 2010, 2011 and early 2012 because of recalls of millions of Toyota vehicles.
