The paper says Armstrong wasn’t considered for the title because of the example he set for other Texans but because of the impact his story had on the news, whether that was good or bad.

In October 41 year old Lance Armstrong was accused by the USADA of using performance enhancement drugs while riding in the Tour de France.

That investigation has led to Armstrong being banned for life from participating in any pro-cycling events. His 7 Tour de France medals were revoked and several sponsors have requested he return the prize money he received from them.

The paper calls Armstrong “a fighter, a survivor and a ice cold calculated liar”.

“Armstrong’s crash has left a crater as big as Texas itself,” the paper states.

The Dallas Morning News paper chose Lance Armstrong as ‘sports personality of the year’ in 1999 after he won his first Tour de France title.

Earlier today, Armstrong declared he is not going to appeal the decision by the USADA to have him banned from cycling forever.

He had 21 days to appeal the decision by the court but the Texan had said during an earlier interview he wasn’t going to fight the allegations anymore.

Based on that decision the International Olympic Committee has decided that Lance Armstrong now also must return his Olympic bronze medal which he won for time trials during the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
