SALT LAKE CITY – More than 200 teachers are being taught how to use a weapon in Utah. The initiative comes after the Newtown massacre in Connecticut that left 20 children and 6 faculty staff members dead.

The ‘gun course’ takes six hours and is intended to teach teachers everything they need to know about incidences.
“We want to offer our teachers the necessary skill set and preparedness to protect their students during a tragedy in the class or in the school,” said Clark Aposhian, chairman of Utah’s ‘Shooting Sport Council’.
But some teachers are worried about the consequences of carrying guns in school. They worry that students could overpower them and use the guns to shoot other students.
Other teachers have a more positive outlook after they’ve received the six hours gun training class.
“I purchased a bra-holster,” says 32 year old Jessica Fiveash proudly. “No one can see it. Students won’t even notice it.”
Teacher Jona Tuttle said: “Many criminals attack schools because they are easy targets. But when they know that teachers are prepared and carry guns, they will probably think twice before targeting a school”.
Utah is just one of a handful of states in the United States where carrying a concealed weapon to school is legal as long as the wearer has a valid permit.
