On December 19th, a shopping spree before Christmas turned into a nightmare for shoppers when a shark aquarium inside the Oriental Shopping Center in Shanghai exploded.
Thousands of gallons of water flooded the mall and 3 sharks lay dead after the glass of the 23 ft-by-10 ft aquarium suddenly busted. 16 shoppers were injured in the incident.
The video (see below), which has only been released now, captured by surveillance cameras shows the moment of impact and reveals shoppers being ‘washed away’ by gallons of rushing water.
The force of the explosion was so strong, it tore down cosmetic stands inside the shopping center on the other side of aquarium.
The popular shark tank was only two years old but it has been speculated that a sudden cold snap that day in Shanghai may have contributed to thick aquarium glass shattering.
Police are investigating the incident to rule out foul play.
