(NDJ) – US authorities are investigating the death of four dolphins that washed ashore at the Gulf of Mexico, showing traces of mutilation, shot wounds and other barbaric torture.

One dolphin was found near Gautier with a gunshot wound. Moby Solangi, who works at the Institute of Sea Mammals in Gulfport, says the bullet entered the dolphin from its belly and lodged in its kidneys.
Just this past Friday a dead dolphin washed ashore at Deer Island, missing a piece of its jaw.
“The animals aren’t just being killed but mutilated as well,” says Solangi.
He asks residents living in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama to be on the watch out. Even fishermen are being asked to be alert and notify authorities if they spot anything suspicious.
Solangi says he can’t understand why anyone would want to kill these animals. “They already are under a lot of stress since the oil disaster 2 years ago.”
Violence towards dolphins is punishable by law in the United States. In the past there was evidence that often times fishermen would hurt dolphins because they believed the mammals made off with their catch.
Such is not the case this time however. US authorities are ‘hunting’ for the individuals responsible for these macabre attacks on dolphins.
