(NDJ) – A group of scientists from United States, Europe, Australia and Canada have discovered the gene clue that silently kills women.
After analyzing DNA strands from tens of thousands of women, the scientists concluded that single letter gene changes are the cause for ovarian and breast cancer in women.
Andrew Berchuck, a professor at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, who headed one of the investigations stated:
“These latest findings raise the possibility that in the future, women in the general population who are at the greatest risk of developing ovarian cancer because they carry these newly discovered DNA variants can be identified and given closer surveillance. It also suggests that preventive approaches could be targeted towards these women.”

Single letter gene changes are clues to causing ovarian and breast cancer in women.
The studies found telltale DNA on chromosomes 2, 3, 8, 17 and 19 that strongly indicated risk from serious ovarian cancer, and a variation of DNA on Chromosome 19 amplified the risk of breast cancer.
While this study does not offer a cure nor a reason for the development of those cancer, scientists believe that the clues open the way to diagnostic tools for women at risk.
That would mean excellent news for women with high-risk ovarian cancer. Each year, about 130,000 women around the world die from the disease.
