Apple’s newest gadgets will be available to consumers in November and will be sold in more than 20 countries. The iPad Mini can be pre-ordered beginning Friday.
The iPad Mini fits in one hand and weighs 53 percent less than the iPad2. The unit is only 7.2mm thick and has a 7.9 inch screen versus the 9.7 inch screen that came with the original iPad.
Apple says that all Apps and software developed for the iPad will work flawlessly on the iPad Mini.
Price wise, the iPad Mini is about $US30 more than its immediate competitor. Basic model retails for $US329. iPad4 tablets start at $US499, the same price that was charged for a basic iPad3.
Release of the iPad Mini is a direct deviation from former Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ vision who said in 2010 that mini tablets ‘are too big to be a smartphone and too small to be a tablet’.
Apple’s newest CEO Tim Cook says that Apple’s product reputation speaks for itself based on the number of iPads the company has sold.
According to Cook, Apple sold over 100 million ipads in the past 2.5 years.
