ROMA – Who wouldn’t want to drive at least one time a slick, fast, agile, hot red or bright yellow Ferrari zooming effortlessly over tarmac, taking hair pin turns at dazzling speed with ease?
Ferrari’s latest recall may just dampen your mood for such a trill ride. Today Ferrari announced the recall of 1248 units of its newest 458 Italia model. The high performance car has a heating shield problem that causes the car to combust without warning.
For some time now, several owners of the 458 Italia have said that their car caught fire without reason, either while driving or just after parking the car. Ferrari launched an investigations into the claims and has decided that a recall is warranted.
A Ferrari spokesperson said that the $230K super car will undergo modifications to its wheelhouse assembly.

The individual told CNNMoney.com:
“In rare instances the heat shield could become deformed, bringing it too close to the exhaust system and igniting.”
As of now, five accidents of the 458 Italia catching fire have been reported from California, Switzerland, China and France.
Ferrari is asking owners to bring in their car if it was produced before July 2010 to replace the faulty glue with mechanical fasteners.
In the last 3 months 10 of the 458 Italia supercar have either crashed or caught fire.
