The city’s council believes that the sudden rush of water will unclog the sewer system in parts of the city.

For the past 72 hours, residents of Bulawayo have not been able to flush because of water shortage. 2 of 5 water dams that provide the city with water ran dry. Water supply to the one million residents has been restored – somewhat.

The ‘Big Flush’ on Saturday is intended to give the sewer system in the city a much needed ‘good’ cleaning.

The massive power generated from the flush will allegedly allow all remnant residue to be washed away that had settled when the dams ran dry.

A ‘Big Flush’ will also prevent future build up of material should other dams run dry, according to the city council.
