SAN FRANCISCO – The introduction of the Apple’s newest cellphone, the iPhone 5, left many techies feeling less awed and more hyped after its September 12th unveiling in San Francisco.

Here’s how Apple CEO Tim Cook and other top executives described the phone:
“It is an absolute jewel. It is the most beautiful product we have ever made, bar none. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that the hardware and software engineering that has gone into this product is unlike we’ve ever undertaken before.
The thinnest, fastest, and best iPhone we have ever shipped. It’s designed and built to an exacting level of standard unlike anything we, or anyone in our industry, have made before. We couldn’t be prouder of it.”
The iPhone 5 is thinner, lighter, bigger and has a few more extras such as 3 microphones, a retina screen, updated apps and a new operating system, but for many attendees the phone isn’t anything new.
4G speed is already being used by other cellphone companies for some time and larger retina screens have also been available. Apps allowing users to take panoramic pictures have been available for free for several years.
“The larger screen, faster processor, improved display and camera are all features that were expected and will no doubt improve the user experience. However, it seems to be lacking a ‘wow’ factor,” said Aman Bajaj, a market analyst at the research firm IDC.
“The device itself seems more to be a natural evolution of the iPhone 4S rather than a revolutionary product.”
