HAWAII – American Elizabeth Smart who was kidnapped from her home in 2002 and kept hostage for nine horrifying months, has tied the knot in Hawaii.
Smart, who was only 14 at the time she was kidnapped, locked up and raped, has conquered her fears and anxieties and is now wed to Scottish Mormon Matthew Gilmour, whom she met during a volunteer mission in Paris, France.
The wedding wasn’t actually planned until the summer of next year but media interest made Smart and Gilmour decide to say ‘I Do!’ one year sooner.
The couple married last week in Hawaii.
At 24 years of age, Elizabeth is a well adjusted woman, ready to take on her new life as Mrs. Gilmour.

Brian David Mitchel, who kidnapped Smart and kept her captive for nine months with the assistance of his wife, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in 2010.
While held hostage, Smart was raped on a regular basis by Mitchel, she was fed drugs and alcohol and after being freed, Smart described her ordeal as “having lived in hell for 9 months”.
Mitchel’s wife was sentenced to 15 years behind bars in 2009.
