Only His Windshield Was Up To Par

JOHANNESBURG – South African police pulled a vehicle off the freeway after establishing that the windshield of the pickup truck was the only thing that was intact and original.

A missing engine parts, no rear lights and the gas tank replaced with a plastic bottle is how a Zimbabwean drove his 35 year old Toyota pickup over South African roads.

When stopped by police he explained he had purchased the car in that condition and had paid $700 for it. But once police told him how much more it would cost in fines for driving an unsafe and not up to code vehicle on public roads, the man took off in a sprint.

The incident took place in the city of Kimberley. A police spokesperson said the truck had only two gears left that were still functional.

“None of the lights worked and the tires were worn down to the thread. Only the windshield was in compliance with the law.” said Moses Alfonse.

Alfonse continued to say how disarrayed and dangerous the vehicle was:

“The truck had no brakes and shocks were held in place with wires. Worst of all was the gas tank. That was nothing more than a leaking one gallon plastic bottle that hung were the gas tank should have been. No doubt extremely dangerous and life threatening.”

The truck was seized by police and will eventually be reduced to scrap metal. The driver/owner of the truck is still on the loose.
