High in the Himalaya Mountain region of Bhutan, nestled up against the flanks, animal conservationists managed to capture live footage of the seldom seen snow leopard.
Using several ‘trigger’ cameras, installed around what scientists believed to be a snow leopard’s passage, the world gets a glimpse of a truly remarkable animal that few have ever seen.
The snow leopard is extremely shy and cautious by nature and usually only leaves his burrow at night. On a clear night, the moon is the only dim light that lights up the leopards path. More often than not the animal roams in total darkness.

Snow leopards are native to south and central Asia and live at altitudes of 9,800 to 18,000 feet, making it virtually impossible for visitors to observe them in their natural habitat.
Because of their extremely ‘secretive’ nature, the exact number of existing snow leopards still living in the wild is unknown but scientists who believe there are about 3,500 to 7,000 of them.
The video below was shot by the World Wild Life agency in Wangchuck Centennial Park, the largest wild life reserve in Bhutan. The ability to capture the snow leopard on camera was made possible by the cooperation of Bhutan’s government.
Researchers captured video of the magnificent animal during the day and at night by installing motion and heat sensing cameras.
Sadly, about 600 to 700 snow leopards are being kept in zoos around the world. The animal is listed on the endangered specie list.
