FORT LAUDERDALE – Well, we’re not going to tell you how you can steal an expensive Rolex watch and get away with it even while being captured in the act by security cameras and surrounded by a dozen security officers.

What we are going to tell is how someone actually did this and got away with it, even though the watch was stolen in plain sight.

When Mrs. De Regalado arrived at Terminal 3 at the airport of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she together with other travelers, had to go through security before boarding the plane to Kentucky.

The security check consists of travelers having to put their personal belongings in small plastic bins that are pushed through metal detectors before they themselves are asked to walk through a security scanner as well.

Mrs. Del Regalado did as she was asked. She removed her $10,000 Rolex watch from her wrist together with a bracelet and some other personal items, placed them in a plastic bin, pushed it through the metal detector and walked through the scanner.

All went well, except that the woman who’s originally from El Salvador, forgot to reclaim her personal belongings on the other side of the scanners.

About 30 minutes passed until the woman realized she was missing her Rolex watch and her bracelet. She rushed back to the security terminal but there was no trace of her expensive watch or her bracelet.

Mrs. Del Regalado explained to security officer her situation and how much the items were worth and the sentimental value each one had for her.

The Rolex watch was a 10th anniversary present from her husband and the bracelet was an expression of her Catholic religion. The distraught woman asked if officers could check the security tape to see what had happened to her missing items.

On the video, officers and Mrs. Del Regalado witnessed a man who stood next to her during check in, placing his personal belongings in a bin and push it through the metal detector before walking through the body scanner.

Once on the other side of the detectors the unidentified man calmly takes his personal stuff and puts them back in his backpack.

Then the video reveals how the individual suddenly notices the watch and bracelet in a bin next to his. The man looks left and right over his shoulders before snatching the items from the container, places them in his backpack and calmly walks away.

Airport security jumped into action after seeing the video but the man, who they believe took a flight to Dallas, could no longer be located.

Mrs. Del Regalado has offered a one thousand dollars reward for the return of her Rolex watch and her bracelet. Thus far, no such luck.

Airport security warn travelers to be on the alert constantly when at an airport; especially when you find yourself in an area where a lot of people are gathered and lots of things are going on, such as during a security check.
