NEW DELHI – The werewolf syndrome is so rare, it occurs in only 1 birth out of every one billion. Yet in one Indian family, the gene shows its characteristics of excessive facial and body hair in three siblings.
All three sisters, Savita (23), Monisha (18) and Savitri (16) are covered top to bottom with thick, coarse hair. The Sangli sisters inherited the werewolf gene from their deceased father.
Amazingly, the three other siblings, also girls, do not have the mutated gene and look like ‘normal’ individuals.

The three werewolf girls try desperately to combat the excessive hair growth by applying cremes and hope to be able to save enough money to one day undergo laser treatments to remove the hair permanently.
“If not, we will never get a man,” tell the sisters.
Werewolf syndrome or hypertrichosis universalis, is a defected gene transferred from parent to child, that causes excessive hair growth over the entire body.
The sisters are having a documentary produced about their lives in the hope to raise money for treatments.
Mother Anita hopes that the film will generate the 7500 dollars required for each one of her daughters to undergo the laser treatments that could give them a normal life.
She says she was only 12 years old when she was forced to marry her daughters’ very hairy dad and didn’t know he carried the werewolf gene.
