LIMA – Joran van der Sloot who was sentenced to 28 years behind bars at Challapalca prion, considered to be Peru’s worst jail, must according to his lawyer be send back to the Castro Castro prison as quickly as possible.
According to van der Sloot’s lawyer, housing his client at Challapalca, is undeserved and unjust.
Lawyer José Jiménez Navarro wrote a letter to Peru’s prison authority agency INPE stating that Joran van der Sloot would love to return to the jail he was first imprisoned shortly after he was extradited by Chili in June 2010.
Van der Sloot is currently behind bars at the Piedras Gordas prison which is much stricter than the Castro Castro jail.
“He is only allowed out of his cell to catch fresh air for very short periods,” wrote Jiménez.
José Jiménez Navarro believes that Stephanie Flores’ family, who is influential, is probably responsible for his client being moved to a much stricter prison.
“But we will never be able to prove that,” said Jiménez.
Van der Sloot has appealed his recent conviction but that can take up to one year before he finds out whether or not his request has been granted.
