CUPERTINO – A new book entitled ‘Inside Apple’ alleges that working for the second largest company in the world isn’t all what outsiders claim it’s cracked up to be.

The book, written by Adam Lashinsky, states that workers have a tough life at Apple Inc. Reportedly, only the top executives are allowed to be creative and everyone else is expected to do what they’re told.

Apple personnel is reportedly told to just work and keep quiet. They are told to leave their egos at the door and once settled in at their desks, only one thing matters to Apple: work as they are told, no more but certainly not less.

Only the elite crop of programmers and developers are hired by Apple, located on the ‘One Infinite Loop’ in Cupertino, California.

And only the absolute best get access to building and manage to pass an army of security people; everyone else is politely but firmly accompanied to the door.

According to Lashinsky, who is a journalist for Fortune Magazine and who did manage to get pass security and get an inside look, Apple rarely discusses personnel and Steve Jobs was as personal as the company would go.

According to Lashinsky, working for Apple is not for softies.

“The environment in Apple is far from creative, unlike Google’s environment. Apple does not offer a ‘cool’ work environment, but it does create workers that produce very well for the company.

Apple employees are constantly exposed to pressure and stress and only those who can tolerate this stay at Apple.

“That’s exactly what Steve Jobs wanted from his employees,” says Lashinsky

“Jobs was a tyrannic top man, who put the fear of God in his employees making them scared to death to even consider leaking the company’s secrets,” according to Lashinsky.

Apple’s personnel is much like a puzzle, according to the author. Everyone does their job and doesn’t know a thing about anyone else. The top guys are left to putting the puzzle together.

Information about Apple is strictly limited to just 100 people. They meet in rooms without windows referred to as “lock down chambers”.

The rest of the staff gets to know all their is to know about a new product from a TV screen at the same time the world is introduced to it.

That’s why the surprise of Apple employees is always so enormous when they see the new product together with the world. Even though these employees actually worked on developing the new product, they never knew all the information behind it.

According to Lashinsky, Apple’s work environment is in direct contrast with how Google operates and treats its employees.

At Google employees work in a relaxed, creative and pleasant environment. They can watch all of Google’s latest developments on photos and everything is put at the disposal of Google employees to make their work as pleasant as possible.

At Google, employees have access to beauty salons, pool halls, swimming pools and volleyball courts.

Employees are allowed to bring their pet dog to work and every staff members is inspired to work by Google’s ’20 percent projects’; during 20 percent of their work hours, Google employees are allowed to work by themselves or as a group on personal projects.

“Inside Apple” by Adam Lashinsky is available at Amazon.com and other major bookstores.
