RIO DE JANEIRO – According to the Mayor of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Eduardo Paes, at least 3 buildings have collapsed in the heart of the city. Five people have been injured and more are trapped beneath the debris.
The Mayor stated that the buildings, one 20 floors high, the second 10 stories and the third building about four floors high, wedged between the two taller buildings collapsed without warning.
Rescue teams are feverishly working to free those trapped under the debris of concrete and steal.

Why the buildings collapsed is still being investigated, although witnesses have come forth saying they heard a loud explosion just before the structures crumbled to dust.
The city Mayor pointed out that structural problems may have caused the buildings to collapse.
Luckily, the largest of the buildings, a warehouse, stands empty at night, minimizing the casualties.
According to a lawyer who was at the large site when it collapse, the tallest building collapsed first; a few minutes later the second largest structure imploded, crushing the middle building.
