CAIRO – Security personnel at Cairo airport in Egypt discovered a gas bomb on board a Libyan passengers flight.
A spokesperson for the airport said “it would have been a disaster had the bomb exploded”.
A crew member found the hand made bomb on board the Libyan state owned plane, stashed inside a paper towel box in one of the plane’s toilets.
A robot was used to remove the bomb from the plane and detonate it afterwards.
The plane was destined to Tripoli, Libya and already 79 passengers were on board when the gas bomb was discovered.

Egyptian investigators interrogated crew members who believe that a woman possibly placed the bomb because she was the last one to use the toilet where the bomb was found while the plane was still grounded.
Libya sent a replacement plane to Cairo to fly stranded passengers to Tripoli.
During Mouammar Qaddafi’s reign over Libya, the state supported terrorist groups and even planned several attacks.
