SYDNEY – Roger Federer, arguably the best tennis player the world has ever seen, played his 1000st pro tennis match on Wednesday against Juan Martin Del Potro during the Australian Open.

The Swiss Fed-Express who ranks third in the ATP, won his landmark game beating the tall Argentine Del Potro (ATP 11) in 3 sets 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2.

That win secured Federer a place in the semi-finals of the first grand slam of 2012 when he’ll be facing either the Czech Tomas Berdych (ATP 7) or 2nd ranked Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

Federer has won a staggering 814 games of the 1000 he’s played and amassed 16 grand slam titles.

This semi-final qualification will be Roger’s ninth consecutive semi-final showing at the Australian Open. a grand slam he’s already won four times (2004, 2006, 2007 and 2010).
