ROME – The disaster of the Costa Concordia cruise ship near the island of Gigli, Italy is rumored to have been predicted six months ago.

The eight story ship that sailed into a huge boulder, tearing its flank wide open, filling its hull with seawater, that eventually made the vessel capsize, was said to be veiled in ‘disaster’ ever since it was first blessed some six months ago.

The standard ‘good luck’ blessing of breaking a bottle of champagne against a ship’s bow before it sets to water reportedly didn’t go as planned when the Costa Concordia was blessed but the bottle didn’t break when it was slammed against the ship.

That was enough for superstitious souls to condemn the vessel before it ever set sail. One of those individuals was Captain Francesco Schettino, now under house arrest, who said in 2010 that he “most definitely didn’t want to have been in the shoes of the Titanic’s commander”.

For others the day and date the accident occurred, January Friday 13th, is proof enough the ship was cursed.

Witnesses who survived the crash that thus far has claimed 11 lives, say the song ‘Titanic’ by Celine Dione, was playing in one of the ship’s restaurants at the time of impact.

But probably most chilling is the story of a person known as “Bastien09bofficiel” on YouTube.com who six months ago predicted that the Costa Concordia would sink.

Since then, the prediction has taken on horror proportions and some worry that a terrorist act, with ‘Bastien’ as the brain behind the plot, may have caused the ship to crash.

The last few days, news has been spreading that the enormous cruise ship has sprung an oil leak and diesel is seeping into the ocean, which, if not contained quickly, could turn into an ecological disaster.

The damage to the vessel amounts to tens of millions of dollars. There were 4,200 people on board at the time of the crash (passengers and crew members combined). Eleven people have died in the disaster and 22 individuals are still missing.
