CUPERTINO – 17 year old Angela Zhang from Cupertino California, may have possibly developed a cure against cancer.
Angela discovered a molecule that she describes as the “Swiss Knife” of all cancer medicines, which is allegedly capable of detecting cancer cells, destroys them and monitors the reaction of the treatment.
The molecule operates by attaching itself to nano particles inside a cancer patient’s body. These particles in turn lash on to cancer cells.
Using MRI scanners, doctors are then able to determine the exact location of the cancer cells.
Once the cancer cells have been detected, an infrared light is beamed on the molecule which makes it melt and releases the anti-cancer medicine directly into the cancer cells. The medicine only destroys the cancer cells without damaging the healthy ones surrounding the cancer tissue.
The teen has tested her discovery on mice in a lab at Stanford University and the results were amazing; the cancer cells melted away like snow in the sun.
Angela’s mentor, Dr. Zhen Cheng of Standord University, says that his student’s discovery is “exceptional and wonderful”.
“It is still too early to tell if the technique will work on people and if the medicine will be successful,” says Cheng but adds that preliminary tests are positive.
“We’ll know more in about 15 years. We need that time to refine the application.”
Angela says she started reading books about biotechnology for fun when she was just 15 years young.
Shortly thereafter she began reading serious scientific case studies.
