ROME – Near the coast of Toscany, Italy, a cruise ship tilted over, throwing its passengers in the frigid waters.
At least 3 individuals are dead and a few dozen more are still missing. Coast guards fear more bodies are floating in the water.
14 people have been injured in the accident. Two people are fighting for their lives. Authorities believe as much as 70 people are effected by the disaster that some survivors compared to the ‘sinking of the Titanic’.

The Costa Concordia’s problem began with a 210 foot tear in its flank that allowed the ship to slowly fill with water. Eventually, the uneven weight distribution made the ship flip over throwing on deck passengers in the frigid waters while others scrambled to get out.

More than 4,000 passengers were rescued but others weren’t as lucky as they tried to save themselves by jumping off the ship’s decks.
Evacuees have been harbored in available hotel rooms on the small island of Tuccio, inside a church and several sports halls.
Authorities say there were 3,200 passengers on board the ship and several thousand employees at the time the cruise ship tilted over.
